Load Bearing

The concrete core forms the structural integrity of insulbrick construction. The load bearing capacity of the concrete is reliant on its steel reinforcement and which size brick you use. We will advise the appropriate insulbrick for your project and our engineers will prepare the specifications clearly indicating the location of the reinforcement steel. In essence the greater the load the more reinforcement steel required.
1. Insulbrick 170 carrying posi-strut sub-floor for second storey
2. Insulbrick 240 carrying posi-strut sub-floor for second storey. The 240 brick was used on this occasion, as the slope of the land required the opposite wall to double as a retaining wall.
3. Supporting posi-struts
4. Insulbrick 240 supporting a suspended concrete slab
5. Insulbrick 240 doubling as a retaining wall in the basement and supporting the next two levels.
6. Insulbrick 240 basement supports this suspended slab and next two levels. The final level is to be built with insulbrick 170.
7. A waterproof membrane [in black] has been applied in readiness for the earth to be back-filled
8. This insulbrick 240 wall is designed to support a suspended slab, two more floors and act as a retaining wall- it therefore requires extra reinforcement
